Wicked

In the time before Dorothy’s visit to the Land of Oz, the Wicked Witch of the West was once known as Elphaba, a young woman shunned because of her green skin. When Madame Morrible takes an interest in her, Elphaba becomes a student at Shiz University, where she shares a room with Galinda. After a rocky start, the pair become friends—a friendship that’s tested when they travel to meet the Wizard. Here are a few movie mistakes to look for while watching “Wicked”.
· Students begin to arrive at Shiz. Galinda arrives and there is a crowd behind her during the “Dear Ol’ Shiz” number. When Elphaba makes her way through the crowd, everyone behind Galinda moves out of the way, giving Elphaba an unblocked path toward her. But, in the overhead view, when Galinda starts to sing, there are students behind her once again.
· New roommates, Galinda and Elphaba, begin to sing “What Is This Feeling”. In the split screen, the left side view of Elphaba shows her right arm is pulling back the bed covers. The scene cuts to an overhead view and it’s Elphaba’s left arm drawing back the cover as she gets out of bed.
· Elphaba is about to board the train to Oz and is talking to Galinda and Fiyero. Galinda turns to the other students and announces she will not be called “Galinda” anymore, but “Glinda”. As the other students applaud, Nessa notices Boq is smitten with Glinda. In the close-up view, Nessa turns her wheelchair to leave. In the farther view, she is shown turning the wheelchair again to leave.
· CAUTION: May Contain Spoilers! Elphaba and Galinda are trying to escape Emerald City as the Wizard’s guards start to breakdown the door. Elphaba has her satchel with the handle across her body throughout the scene. But, after Glinda has been captured by the guards, and Elphaba is flying (her new cape in the air behind her), the views of her show her satchel is now gone.
“Wicked” (2024) stars Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Jonathan Bailey, Marissa Bode, Ethan Slater, and the voice of Peter Dinklage. It runs 160 minutes and is rated PG for some scary action, thematic material and brief suggestive material.
